The summers just about over, so we decided maybe we should use our boat and take the girls up to Yuba Lake and camp for a couple nights. I know it's pathetic that we haven't used the boat yet, but sometimes life gets busy. Anyways, on the way down we stopped at a gas station to take the girls to the bathroom, while I'm helping Macy, Raegan says to me, "Mom, do you know how I love you?" I asked how and she says, "With your makeup on." Then I asked, "You don't love me without my makeup on?" and she replied,"Well, yes, but it's just that your so pretty with your makeup on."
The next morning, after not getting much sleep camping, Raegan jumps on my sleeping bag, looks at my face, and in a very concerned voice asked "Mom, did you bring your makeup?" Ahh, gotta love the honesty of kids, it just makes me feel all warm and fuzzy inside. I know I shouldn't be concerned what my 5 year old really thinks, but I did ask Kurt later if I really did look that horrible without makeup. Of course he said no, but what else was he going to say without getting in trouble? I'll take his word (whether he was lying or not) for it.
Back to the camping trip: We met four other families there around 10:00p.m., set up camp on the beach, made smores, and put the kids to bed. I was super paranoid about sleeping in the tent because I don't sleep well anywhere besides my own bed, so my cute husband got me a tent and the ultimate foam pad to put on top. It was actually a really comfy bed and I would have slept great had it not been for some teenagers partying hard just a few campsites away. They didn't settle down until around 3:30 in the morning, which meant that I didn't get to sleep until then as well. I was so irritated with them, I laid awake and listened to them laugh, scream, swear, and worse (if you catch my drift).
The next morning we took out the boat, and played on the beach the entire day. The kids loved every minute of it, which made it worth not sleeping the night before. The lake was FREEZING, but Raegan wouldn't stay out of it, she was a fish while Macy preferred to make sandcastles and not get in the water. I don't blame her, I didn't get in the water either. I wanted to go wake boarding but I'm too wimpy when it comes to being cold.
The second night I had a plan to be asleep before the party animals started up again, the plan worked okay, they woke me up twice, but since I was so tired from the night before I slept much better. The girls had no problem sleeping in the tent, Raegan did wake up once and had no clue where she was and was wondering around so confused.
It was a fun little getaway, even if it was just for a couple days.
